What is the design major like at Notre Dame?

“If you're creative minded and like solving problems, I would say this is the perfect major for you,” said Alexis Dorsey, whose concentration is in industrial design.

At Notre Dame, you can concentrate in visual communication design or industrial design. You’ll take classes like:

  • Typography
  • Digital Solid Modeling
  • Motion Design
  • Rapid Visualization
  • Packaging Design
  • Product Design
  • Visualization of Data
  • Collaborative Design Development

Design majors pursue their passions while developing skills such as critical and analytical thinking, research, ideation and implementation, and visual literacy.

After graduation, students go on to top graduate and professional schools and work in a variety of professions and industries. First jobs include:

  • Graphic artist, Whole Foods Market
  • Editorial assistant, HarperCollins Publishers
  • Visual designer, Isobar
  • Systems integration analyst, Accenture
  • Product developer, Piece & Co.

“Professors are dedicated to teaching you the craft. They're motivated to help you in any way they can,” said Sam Cho, who is concentrating in visual communication design. "I feel more than equipped to go forward with anything that I want to pursuit in my life."
