What is the philosophy major like at Notre Dame?

“I really feel like we're engaging seriously with philosophy. It actually can become very personal, reflecting on human nature and what is an ethical life, and what is justice,” said philosophy major Natasha Reifenberg.

In philosophy, you’ll take classes like:

  • Game Theory
  • Infinity in Philosophy
  • God and the Good Life
  • Robot Ethics
  • Moral Problems
  • Formal Logic
  • Aesthetics
  • Philosophy of Mind

Philosophy majors pursue their passions while developing skills such as critical thinking, data analysis, evidence-based arguments, and information synthesis.

After graduation, students go on to top graduate and professional schools and work in a variety of professions and industries. First jobs include:

  • Consultant, The Boston Consulting Group
  • Writer, Discovery Channel
  • Research assistant, Federal Reserve Board
  • Investment banking analyst, JPMorgan Chase
  • Market researcher, Beneficial Bank

“What's really demonstrated by what so many philosophers do after graduation is that you can really go wherever you want,” said philosophy major Jean Llenos. “What's going to set me apart is my ability to think on my feet, to critically analyze situations, and to come up with creative solutions.”
