A conference designed to help students reflect on their lives as responses to God’s call will be held Sunday to Tuesday (March 25 to 27) at the University of Notre Dame.
Organized by the Center for Liturgy and the Notre Dame Vocation Initiative (NDVision), the conference, “Vocations and the Universal Call to Holiness,” will include lectures on marriage, the consecrated religious life, service and prayer.
“Students come to a university with thoughts of preparing for their future career, said David W. Fagerberg, director of the Center for Liturgy and one of the conference organizers. "But students come to this particular, Catholic university with the further expectation that they will be able to integrate their profession with their discipleship and faith.
“Often the term `vocation’ is used in a specific sense to mean vocations of men to the priesthood, but the Catholic tradition also has a larger, more general understanding of the term. Indeed, everyone in the Church has an apostolate which is their `calling’ from God.”
All of the conference lectures will be given in the Jordan Auditorium of the Mendoza College of Business.
John Cavadini, chair of theology at Notre Dame, will speak on “Baptism and the Universal Call to Holiness” at 5p.m. March 25.
On March 26, Archbishop Timothy Dolan of Milwaukee will speak on “The Sacrament of Orders: The Vocation of Priesthood” at 5p.m., and Scott Hahn, professor of theology at Franciscan University will speak on “The Mystery of Marriage Unveiled” at 8p.m.
Sister Sara Butler, a theologian from St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, N.Y., will speak on “The Consecrated Life: A Call to Prayer and Service” at 5p.m. March 27, and the conference will conclude with Aurelie Hagstrom of Providence College speaking on “Living Out the Lay Apostolate” at 8p.m.
