The University of Notre Dame’s philosophy department has been placed 13th in the rankings of the Philosophical Gourmet, a biennial on-line peer review of graduate departments in philosophy.

“We have long enjoyed a high ranking in the Philosophical Gourmet,” said Paul J. Weithman, chair and professor of philosophy. “This is a peer-ranking of which we should be very proud.”

In a field of 54, Notre Dame tied with the University of Arizona and the University of Texas, and ahead of Brown, Cornell, Yale and Georgetown Universities.

The Philosophical Gourmet also ranks philosophy graduate programs by specialty, listing Notre Dame’s as the best in the philosophy of religion and among the best in metaphysics, epistemology, logic, and German philosophy.
