Saturday Scholar Series: What's So Funny About a Joke?

-

Location: Snite Museum of Art, Annenberg Auditorium

Mark W. Roche, Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C., Professor of German Language and Literature, Department of German and Russian Languages and Literatures

Why do we tell and enjoy jokes? How are the most complex jokes structured? The presentation, which includes a number of jokes, analyzes the greatness and limits of Freud’s theory of jokes and then explores the ways in which jokes play with various kinds of paradoxes.

You are invited to experience an intimate discussion with Notre Dame’s most engaging faculty speakers on some of the most pressing and fascinating issues of our times. Each lecture and Q-and-A is presented on “home game” Saturdays. This week’s game is Notre Dame vs. Wake Forest University.

No tickets are required.
