This lecture is presented by Margaret Mullett, director of Byzantine studies at Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection.

It is a continuation of “Writing Empire: Rome and Byzantium,” a yearlong interdisciplinary colloquium in honor of our late colleague and friend Sabine MacCormack, Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., Professor of Arts and Letters, exploring the rich literary, political, and religious cultures of the Roman and Byzantine empires.
