Gallery Talk: "Rouault in Context: War, Religion, and Reconciliation"

Location: Snite Museum of Art, O'Shaughnessy West

Thomas Kselman, professor in the Department of History at Notre Dame, will present “Rouault in Context: War, Religion, and Reconciliation.” This program will take place in the exhibition, Lines Etched with the Weight of Life: Georges Rouault’s Miserere.

Georges Rouault’s Miserere print series is informed as much by his experience of World War I as it is his own Catholic spirituality. Delve more deeply into the historical environment in which these works were produced as Professor Kselman discusses the culture wars between church and state, and World War I as an instrument for reconciliation between these two factions.

This program is open to the public.
