Exhibit: Visiting Artist Dawn Okoro

-

Location: Dooley Room, Lafortune Hall

Shades of Ebony and WorldView invite the Notre Dame community to commemorate Black History Month by celebrating the beauty of African American women. Please join us in celebrating contemporary and inspirational portrayals of African American women and welcoming Okoro to campus. Okoro will say a few words about her paintings at 5pm and refreshments will be served during the event.

Dawn Okoro is an artist who lives and works in New York City. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University. Her work incorporates photography, collage, and ideas from popular culture. Through her visit to the University of Notre Dame, Okoro hopes to open a dialogue about popular media’s affect on black womens’ self image and discuss strategies to tell a different story.
