Art and Poetry: Albrecht Dürer and Victor Hugo

-

Location: Snite Museum of Art, Atrium (View on map )

Albrecht Dürer's 1513 engraving Knight, Death, and the Devil has captured the imagination of viewers and artists since its creation. French poet, novelist, and dramatist Victor Hugo wrote an ode to the artist - inspired by this print - in 1837 which he allies himself with Dürer in sharing a visionary outlook.

Join for a friendly exploration of word and image. All are welcome and French students are particularly encouraged to come!

The conversation will be held in English, but copies of the poem will be made available.  Email jdouthwa@nd.edu if you want a copy in advance.
