The exhibition, which will be on display from September 28, 2015 through October 9, 2015 in the Great Hall of O’Shaughnessy, investigates how Germany has come to terms with its past and encourages visitors to ask questions about how we remember the past. What do we remember, how do we remember, and why do we remember? Its focus is on Germany after 1945, but encourages visitors to compare the experiences of that country to the ways in which their own societies are facing up to issues in their pasts—and presents—that may still be unresolved.
An opening reception and address will be held on September 28 at 4:30 p.m, in the Great Hall.
The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular operating hours of O’Shaughnessy Hall, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
“Remembrance: The Holocaust in a Global Context” is presented by The Department of German and Russian in cooperation with The Department of Theology, The Nanovic Institute for European Studies, The Center for Civil and Human Rights, The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, The Program in Religion and Literature, and The Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts. This special series of lectures, films, and gallery talks commemorates the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
