Poetry and Poetics Group Meeting

-

Location: DeBartolo Hall, Room 232

Presentation by Henry Weinfield on 'The Bright Light of Shipwreck': Oppen's _Of Being Numerous_ and the Question of Objectivist Theory The Poetry and Poetics Group is in the format of equal parts reading group and traditional workshop. Each of the five scheduled sessions will feature a speaker giving a targeted and fairly brief presentation centered, in most cases, on a book of poems, which will then be followed by a group-wide conversation. The presentations encompass a healthy mix of poets, time periods, and critical approaches. Presenters include faculty members and graduate students at various stages in their degrees. Everyone with an interest in what poetry can (or can’t) do is encouraged to attend. If you're interested in presenting for the spring 2013 semester or would like to get on the listserv to receive more information, contact Semyon (skhokhlo@nd.edu) or Joel (jduncan2@nd.edu). *Fall 2012 Schedule* All meetings will be held on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in DeBartolo Hall, room 232. * 8/29: Henry Weinfield—'The Bright Light of Shipwreck': Oppen's _Of Being Numerous_ and the Question of Objectivist Theory * 9/12: Semyon Khokhlov—The Place of Charm and Passion in Frank O'Hara's _Lunch Poems_ * 10/3: Chris Chapman—On Ezra Pound's _Quia Pauper Amavi_ * 10/24: Ailbhe Darcy and Nathaniel Myers—On Paul Muldoon's _Moy Sand and Gravel_ * 11/14: Yasmin Solomonescu—title TBA
