Mellon Seminar—Out of the Cloister: Scholastic Exegesis of the Song of Songs, 1100–1250

Each year, the Medieval Institute selects an outstanding young scholar for the A. W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in Medieval Studies. The fellowship allows a tenure-track assistant professor to pursue research leading to the publication of a monograph. At the conclusion of the fellow's period of residency, a panel of senior scholars are invited to campus for a half-day public seminar discussion of the fellow's research. The panelists spend additional time with the fellow in one-on-one conversation and close reading of the draft. The 2011–12 Mellon Fellow is Suzanne LaVere, assistant professor, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. She will present an overview of her book-in-progress, Out of the Cloister: Scholastic Exegesis of the Song of Songs, 1100–1250. Discussants: * Fr.
