Willie Baptist, the Poverty Initiative

Baptist is the scholar in residence of the Poverty Initiative at Union Theological Seminary in New York, coordinator of the Poverty Scholars program, and co-author of Pedagogy of the Poor with Jan Rehmann. A formerly homeless father who survived the Watts uprisings, Baptist worked as an organizer and shop steward for the United Steelworkers. He will share his story and excerpts from his book, including “lessons from grassroots organizing.”
