Aysegul Aydin, assistant professor of political science, University of Colorado-Boulder; Kroc Institute visiting research fellow
Aydin is working on a book manuscript focused on the Kurdish insurgency in the armed contention in Turkey. In this presentation, she will show how insurgents and states organize themselves for coercion on multiple levels and compete on military, ideological, and organizational fronts. She will also explain how they do so using violent as well as non-violent repertoires—and how they stick with these repertoires even if they become self-defeating mechanisms.
Aydin’s research focuses on conflict resolution in international conflicts and civil wars. Her articles have appeared in the Journal of Politics, Journal of Conflict Resolution, European Journal of International Relations, Conflict Management and Peace Science, and Journal of Peace Research. Her book, “Foreign Powers and Intervention in Armed Conflict,” is forthcoming from Stanford University Press.
