Beethovan: Works for Cello and Piano

Ludwig van beethoven’s five sonatas for cello and piano are the first compositions of this genre in which both instruments are presented as equal partners. This performance will feature the two op. 5 sonatas that were composed in 1796 and dedicated to King Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia. The program will also include two sets of variations based on themes from Mozart’s opera, The Magic Flute, which Beethoven composed in 1798 and 1801. Cellist Karen Buranskas and pianist Paivi Ekroth and Daniel Schlosberg will be the featured performers.

Planned Program: Twelve Variations on a Theme of Mozart, op. 66 Sontain F major, op. 5 no. 1; INTERMISSION; Seven Variations on a Theme of Mozart, Wo O 46 Sonata in G minor, op. 5 no. 2

Length: 1 hour, 15 minutes including a 15 minute intermission.
