Teach@ND Day is hosted by Notre Dame Learning’s Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence. This year’s event will feature faculty lightning talks highlighting all manner of excellent teaching at the University as well as a keynote by James Lang. Lunch will be provided, and Notre Dame Learning’s Office of Digital Learning will join in the afternoon for a spotlight on effective digital learning projects implemented by Notre Dame faculty.
All Notre Dame instructors—faculty, postdocs, and graduate students—are invited to attend all or part of the day’s activities.
Lightning Talks Session
9:00–10:30 a.m.
Notre Dame faculty will share informal, three-minute lightning talks about exciting aspects of their own teaching. Come grab a cup of coffee and learn more about some of the great teaching going on right here on our campus.
Keynote: “From Small Steps to Lasting Change: 10 Years of Small Teaching”
10:30–11:45 a.m.
Speaker: James Lang, University of Notre Dame
If you believe that tiny tweaks in your teaching can make a big difference to your students, you might have James Lang’s book Small Teaching to thank. When it was first published in 2016, Small Teaching translated findings from the research on human learning into simple strategies that college instructors could use to improve their course design and classroom practice. During the ensuing 10 years, the research on human learning has continued to evolve, and higher education has entered a new era on multiple fronts. In this keynote, Lang will reiterate the core principles of small teaching, offer new ideas and strategies for its application to the courses we teach in the era of AI, and conclude with some reflections on the places where we need to move beyond small teaching and push for larger changes in teaching and learning in higher education.

Digital Learning Poster Session

Talk with faculty colleagues one-on-one about their innovative work in the digital learning space, ranging from offerings for Notre Dame students to online programming meant to reach far beyond our campus.
Digital Learning Faculty Panel
1:30–2:30 p.m.
Three Notre Dame faculty members will discuss their experiences using digital tools to enhance student learning, with a focus on flipped classrooms, extended reality, and AI.
