Pamela Butler, visiting assistant professor, Department of American Studies, University of Notre Dame
Butler’s interests include race, empire, and political economy in U.S. feminisms; postcolonial and critical race feminist theories; popular culture; and academic feminism and institutionalization. She teaches courses in popular culture, U.S. social and protest movements, and feminist, gender, and sexuality studies. She earned her Ph.D. in American studies, with a minor in feminist studies, from the University of Minnesota. She is visiting Notre Dame for the 2010–11 academic year, after four years teaching film and feminist studies at the University of Michigan-Flint, where she received two awards for teaching excellence.
Butler’s recent work has been published in Meridians: Feminism, Race, Transnationalism and in Queer Twin Cities (University of Minnesota Press). She has been awarded fellowships and grants from the University of Minnesota, the University of Michigan, and the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.
