What is the Spanish major like at Notre Dame?

"Something I was worried about was that everyone was going to already be fluent or native, but I've actually found that it's a really collaborative environment," said Spanish major Emily Meara. "Everyone is really supportive."

In Spanish, you'll take classes like:

  • Spanish of Business
  • Spanish of Medical Professions
  • Imagined Worlds: Now and Then
  • Fascism in Spain
  • Mexican Cinema
  • From Text to Table
  • Colonial Renegades
  • Culturas en Contacto

Spanish majors pursue their passions while developing skills such as language proficiency, intercultural competence, critical thinking, and analysis.

After graduation, students go on to top graduate and professional schools and work in a variety of professions and industries. First jobs include:

  • Latin American account development, Clarabridge
  • Data analyst, Morningstar
  • Editorial intern, Business Insider
  • Research specialist, U. of Illinois Chicago
  • Staff consultant, Ernst & Young

“By the end, I feel 100 times more competent in Spanish than when I came into college," said Spanish major Natalie Reysa. "The Spanish program really enhanced and enriched my experience at Notre Dame, and I would have never had it any other way."
