Lecture: "What Slaveholders Think: How Contemporary Perpetrators Rationalize What They Do"

Location: C103 Hesburgh Center for International Studies (View on map )

In his new book, Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick explores the ways contemporary slaveholders talk about exploitation and emancipation. Surprisingly, slaveholders often insist that they had their victim’s best interest at heart. This rare access to a stigmatized population provides insights into how people feel when they get stuck on the wrong side of history.

Choi-Fitzpatrick, assistant professor of peace studies at the University of San Diego’s Kroc School of Peace Studies, focuses his research on politics, culture, technology, and social change.

All are welcome.
