Shot in the streets of Algiers in documentary style, The Battle of Algiers (not rated, 121 minutes) vividly recreates the tumultuous Algerian uprising against the occupying French in 1957. It is directed by Gillo Pontecorvo.

Catherine Perry (Department of Romance Languages and Literatures) and Alison Rice (Department of Romance Languages and Literatures) will introduce the film, and a post-film panel discussion will include Olivier Morel (Department of Romance Languages and Literatures) and Daniel Lindley (Department of Political Science).
