Indian Classical Music Concert

-

Location: Hesburgh Library, Carey Auditorium

A presentation by the Asian Indian Classical Music Society * Sugato Nag, sitar * Subrata Bhattacharya, tabla

Sugato Nag started his training at the age of eight under the guidance of Late Shri Anil Roychowdhury. Thereafter, he became the disciple of Sangeetacharya Radhika Mohan Maitra. Presently, he is under the guidance of renowned Sarod maestro Pandit Buddhadeb Dasgupta. He has also studied with Ajoy Sinha Roy of the Maihar Gharana. Sugato’s immense talent is evident from the way he synthesizes the sitar style of Ustad Vilayat Khan and the Rabab‐based Sarod style of Ustad Ameer Khan of Shahjahanpore, creating what has been described as a unique and 'completely satisfying listening experience.' In addition to performing all over India, Sugato has toured extensively in the US, Canada, Germany, Holland, Japan, and Australia. He teaches sitar in Kolkata, India, and also provides web-based training to students around the world. Tickets will be available at gate—general admission, $10; AICMS Members and ND/SMC faculty, $5; and students, free.
