Designer Michael Bierut to give lecture Nov. 3

% % % %p. Michael Bierut, a senior critic in graphic design at the Yale School of Art, will give a lecture titled “Michael Bierut at Notre Dame—Finally” on Nov. 3 (Thursday) at 7:30p.m. in the Annenberg Auditorium of the Snite Museum of Art.

The winner of hundreds of design awards, Bierut’s work is represented in the permanent collections of the MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Montreal. A former president of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), he is also president emeritus of AIGA National. He has been elected to both the Alliance Graphique Internationale and the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame.

Co-editor of the four-volume series “Looking Closer: Critical Writings on Graphic Design,” Bierut also co-edited and designed the monograph Tibor Kalman: Perverse Optimist. His commentaries about graphic design in everyday life can be heard nationally on the public radio program Studio 360.

Bierut’s lecture, which is free and open to the public, is cosponsored by the Department of Art, Art History, and Design; the Snite Museum of Art; The Alice Tully Endowment for the Fine and Performing Arts; and the AIGA/Notre Dame student organization.
