Jonathan Cohen, music director

One of the top chamber orchestras in the world, Québec's Les Violons du Roy takes its name from the celebrated court orchestra of the French kings. Founded in 1984 by Bernard Labadie, the "violins of the king" continue under famed music director Jonathan Cohen to explore chamber orchestra's nearly boundless music repertoire. The fifteen-member ensemble plays modern instruments, albeit with period bows for Baroque and Classical music. Its interpretations are deeply informed by the latest research on 17th- and 18th-century performance practice.

Co-sponsored by The DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. Made possible by the Leo and Barbara MacCourtney Endowment for the Performing Arts.
