Dr. Robin Bartram is an Assistant Professor at Tulane University. She studies housing, with a focus on its physical and environmental aspects. In her book, Stacked Decks, she shows how building code inspectors in Chicago assess built environments to make inferences about their inhabitants. Work from this project has also appeared in the "American Journal of Sociology," "City and Community," and "Housing Policy Debate."


As a 2021-22 American Bar Foundation/JPB Foundation Access to Justice Faculty Scholar, she is collecting data for her next book, which investigates how cities plan for aging housing stock and environmental risks. She is particularly interested in how racialized and gendered articulations of responsibility for damage, repair, maintenance, and depreciation.
