Felix Cœli Porta: Organ Music for the Mother of God
Throughout the centuries, the Blessed Virgin Mary has been the inspiration for some of the greatest works of art of Christendom. The tradition of alternating Gregorian chant and organ in the Mass and Divine Office has produced many Marian masterworks for the pipe organ. In this recital on the Fritts Organ, Benton Schmidt will present Magnificat settings by Buxtehude and Scheidemann, the Ave Maris Stella versets of Marcel Dupré, and J. S. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in F. In addition, Benton will also perform Frescobaldi’s Mass of Our Lady on the historic Italian instrument.
Event is free, but ticketed. For tickets call (574) 631-2800 or visit performingarts.nd.edu.
