Professor Kay Shelemay, G. Gordon Watts Professor at Harvard University, will speak on the musical traditions of Syrian Jews. Shelemay, is an ethnomusicologist and leading authority on Jewish music. Her timely and groundbreaking work on Jewish communities from Syria and their migration throughout the world explores the many ways that the art of music sustains identity and culture in times of turmoil.
