Populorum Progressio by Pope Paul VI is widely regarded as the "magna carta of development" as it provided the basis for many of the Catholic Church’s policies on integral human development. The conference will address the thematic social justice issues in this seminal modern Catholic social thought document, especially those in the encyclical such as economic justice, international development, solidarity with the poor, peacebuilding and globalization, all of which gave rise to liberation theology and integral human development practices.

Key note speakers will feature Stephen Pope, Ph.D. from Boston CollegeAna Maria Pineda, R.S.M., S.T.D. from Santa Clara University, Sean Callahan from Catholic Relief Services, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, D.D., S.Th.D. from Manila, Philippines, and Stefano Zamagni, Ph.D. from University of Bologna.
