The Medieval Institute presents their annual graduate student speaker Peter Loewen, who is an Associate Professor of Musicology at Rice University. His research interests concern vernacular song, hymnody, religious drama, intellectual history, music and preaching, and the Franciscans.

Professor Loewen is the author of Music in Early Franciscan Thought (Brill, 2013) and is currently working on a companion volume on Franciscan uses of music in preaching during roughly their first hundred years, titled Music in Early Franciscan Practice.
