ND Theatre NOW presents Wildflower, by Lila Rose Kaplan.

October 1-11, 2015

Seeking a fresh start, a thirty-something single mother arrives with her son – an awkward teenager and botany enthusiast – in Crested Butte, Colorado, home of the Wildflower Festival. Over the course of one turbulent summer, their lives become entwined with those of a local forest ranger, a precocious teenaged girl, and a retired drag queen. A contemporary coming-of–age story, Wildflower asks—when does something beautiful become dangerous? What are the consequences of desire?

Presented under the auspices of ND Theatre NOW, a special event in FTT’s mainstage season which annually features a production realized entirely by student artists, Wildflower is directed by senior theatre major Anthony Murphy. Murphy previously directed Out of Orbit for ND Theatre NOW (2014) and appeared as the emcee in FTT’s production of Cabaret (2013). During the summer of 2015, he appeared in the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival’s productions of The Winter’s Tale and Love’s Labor’s Lost.

“I’m proud to be a veteran of this unique process,” says Murphy, “and I’m thrilled to be working on Lila Rose Kaplan’s beautiful script, which centers on five misfits trying to find their place in the world. As a bit of a misfit myself, I’m so grateful to have found an artistic home in FTT through ND Theatre NOW.”
