Location: Center for Digital Scholarship, Hesburgh Library

The Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies celebrates the launch of the book Island Places, Island Lives by William Donaruma, filmmaker and teaching professor in the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre; Ian Kuijt, professor in the Department of Anthropology; and Ryan Lash ’10, a Ph.D. student in anthropology at Northwestern University.

Island Places, Island Lives provides a wealth of information and insight about Inishbofin and Inishark, two small islands off the Connemara coast. Journeying from the present day back to their first settlement in prehistory, it illustrates how the islands’ landscapes have been shaped by human activity. With evocative photographs, historical analysis, and purposefully developed short films, this guide shows the richness of island life over many generations and is essential for visitors and those familiar with these two special islands.
