Debate: What Is Marriage?

-

Location: Carey Auditorium, Hesburgh Library

Same-sex marriage is perhaps the most contentious issue in contemporary American politics, one that is not always easy to debate or even discuss. In that light, two particularly thoughtful and engaging speakers will be coming to Notre Dame for a formal debate on the question: “What Is Marriage?”

Debating will be John Corvino, associate professor of philosophy at Wayne State University, renowned scholar, and gay-rights activist; and Sherif Girgis, co-author of What Is Marriage?, perhaps the leading scholarly defense of traditional marriage.

Sponsored by the Dean’s Fellows of the College of Arts and Letters and the Tocqueville Program for Inquiry into Religion and Public Life.
