The Badin Bible is a new, landmark addition to the collection of Catholic Americana in the Hesburgh Libraries’ Department of Rare Books and Special Collections. This three-volume edition from 1790 contains an inscription from John Carroll, the first bishop in the United States, to Stephen Badin, the first priest ordained in the United States.

In this symposium, a panel of experts will talk about the significance of this Bible, which is one of the first to be published in the United States.

Panelists include:

  • Gary Anderson, The Hesburgh Professor of Catholic Theology, University of Notre Dame
  • Patrick Griffin, Madden Hennebry Professor of History, University of Notre Dame
