The English Department is pleased to announce that the 2014 Yusko Ward-Phillips lecturer is Margaret Atwood.
A perennial finalist for the Nobel Prize in Literature and winner of many international literary awards, including the Booker Prize, Atwood is the author of more than thirty volumes of fiction, poetry, children’s literature, and nonfiction. She is perhaps best-known for her novels, which include The Handmaid’s Tale, Oryx and Crake, and The Year of the Flood. Her nonfiction book Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth, was recently made into a documentary. Her work has been published in more than forty languages, including Farsi, Japanese, Turkish, Korean, Icelandic, and Estonian.
A book signing and reception will follow the lecture in the McKenna Hall Atrium.
Ms. Atwood’s appearance is funded by the Yusko Endowment for Excellence in English, the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts, and the Provost’s Distinguished Women Lecturers Program.
