Panel Discussion: "Academic, Intellectual, and Religious Freedom in the Private Religiously Affiliated Institutions"

-

Location: Hesburgh Center Auditorium

On behalf of the Faculty Senate, you are invited to a panel discussion on “Academic, Intellectual, and Religious Freedom in the Private Religiously Affiliated Institutions.”

The Faculty Senate thought this would be an ideal time to hold a calm discussion of these rights and privileges since there are currently no contentious controversies swirling in the Notre Dame community. All are welcome.

Panelists:
Kenneth Garcia, associate director, Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts, and author of Academic Freedom and the Telos of the Catholic University

Barbara Jones, director, Office for Intellectual Freedom, American Library Association, and author of Protecting intellectual freedom in Your Academic Library, Scenarios From the Front Lines

Henry Reichman, professor emeritus of history at California State University, East Bay, first vice-president and chair of Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure of the American Association of University Professors; and editor of the American Library Association’s Newsletter on Intellectual Freedom

Moderator:
J. Douglas Archer, chair, Faculty Senate and Peace Studies Librarian, University of Notre Dame and past chair of the American Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee

Sponsored by the University of Notre Dame Faculty Senate and the Hesburgh Libraries.
