Gary Knoppers will present “The Altar at the Central Sanctuary and the Altar on Mt. Gerizim: One and the Same?”
Knoppers is the Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies, Religious Studies, and Jewish Studies at The Pennsylvania State University, and is the author of a two-volume commentary on I Chronicles in the Anchor Bible series. He has co-edited (with Bernard Levinson) a volume on The Pentateuch as Torah, co-edited (with Oded Lipschits and Manfred Oeming) a volume on Judah and the Judeans in the Achaemenid Period, and written some 85 articles and book chapters. His latest book, Jews and Samaritans: The Origins and History of Their Early Relations, will be published later this year by Oxford University Press.
