Pianist Andy Schmidt will perform J.S. Bach’s captivating, rarely-played keyboard masterpiece.
This piece consists of an aria followed by 30 variations. Every third variation is a canon occurring at increasing intervals. This is an intense and captivating work of music, surrounded by and infused with a calm expressiveness and introspection, balanced by frequent outbursts of joyful virtuosity.
Andy Schmidt studied piano with Blanca Uribe at Vassar College. Since graduating with a music degree in 1992, he has continued to practice, perform, and teach. Schmidt has a library science degree from Indiana University; he is the visiting business librarian at the Thomas Mahaffey Jr. Business Information Center at Hesburgh Libraries.
