In celebration of the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, the Sacred Music at Notre Dame initiative will be sponsoring this conference on sacred music, with an emphasis on new music for congregational singing.
The conference events will be linked to a series of concerts and is open to composers, scholars, conductors, and sacred music directors.
Renowned Scottish composer James MacMillan will be present for both series of events and will conduct a short motet (commissioned for this conference) on John 19:26–7. Featured choirs include Aguava New Music Studio (Carmen-Helena Tellez, director), Pomerium (Alexander Blachly, director), and the South Bend Chamber Singers (Nancy Menk, director).
All performances are free but will be ticketed.
The conference will run from September 13, 2012, until September 15, 2012.
