Celebrate Asia

-

Location: LaFortune Ballroom

This is the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures’ first-ever cross-cultural extracurricular activity, involving students from all three language programs: Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. It combines the celebrations of three major autumn East Asian festivals: Chinese Moon Festival (also known as Mid-autumn Festival), a festival for harvest and family reunion; Japanese Tanabata, an East Asian equivalent of Valentine’s Day in the West; and Korean Alphabet Day (also known as Hangul Day), the commemorative day marking the invention of hangul, the system of Korean alphabets. Celebrate Asia is a great occasion for students from three East Asian language programs to communicate with each other and to share a multicultural experience.
