Realizing the DREAM Act

-

Location: Eck Hall of Law, Room 1140

Introduction by Professor Paolo Carozza, Program on Law and Human Development, Notre Dame Law School
Presentation by Jessica Brock, postdoctoral research fellow, Institute for Latino Studies
Conversation with His Eminence Cardinal Roger Mahony, archbishop emeritus of Los Angeles

The DREAM Act has been brought before Congress numerous times over the past 10 years. It was most recently defeated in the Senate in December 2010, and it is presently in committee in the House and Senate for consideration again this year. Many Catholic bishops in the United States and Mexico, including Cardinal Mahony, have been steadfast in their support of the DREAM Act.

Following an introduction by Professor Paolo Carozza, Jessica Brock will give a presentation “The DREAM Act: Its provisions and promise.” Ms. Brock will outline the content of the proposed DREAM Act and comment on its relationship to Catholic social teaching and its support by Catholic bishops. Cardinal Mahony will provide reflections on the presentation and guide a conversation with those present about the DREAM Act.

This event is free and open to the Notre Dame community. Sandwiches will be available.
