James L. Gibson, Washington University in St. Louis and Stellenbosch University in South Africa
James L. Gibson is the Sidney W. Souers Professor of Government and professor of African and African American Studies at Washington University in St. Louis and Professor Extraordinary in Political Science, Stellenbosch University (South Africa). He has published eight books, including the award-winning Overcoming Apartheid: Can Truth Reconcile a Divided Nation? His research interests are varied and include: public reactions to the trials of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia; political intolerance and perceptions of freedom in contemporary American political culture; public reactions to the Caperton v. Massey controversy involving the West Virginia Supreme Court; and the impact of the symbols of judicial authority on citizens’ perceptions of law and courts.
