Robert Bates, Eaton Professor of the Science of Government and professor of African and African American studies, Harvard University
Robert Bates (Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology) researches the political economy of development, particularly in Africa, as well as violence and state failure. Known as one of his field’s most distinguished Africanists, he has had a broad impact on both political economy and comparative politics as a whole.
