Reunion Weekend Seminar: The Inaugural Chuck and Joan Lennon Family Eucharistic Lecture Series: Real Presences

-

Location: Mendoza College of Business, Jordan Auditorium

Hosted by: Rev. John S. Dunne, C.S.C. ‘51, The John A. O’Brien Chair in Theology; professor, theology

In this special inaugural lecture series, endowed through the generosity of Mr. Paul A. Geary, Jr. ’65 and his wife, Ann Marie, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Lennon and their family, Father Dunne explores the real presence of Christ within us through the gift of the Eucharist.

There is the presence of God: “The guiding counsel of God seems to me to be simply the divine presence”, Martin Buber says, “communicating itself direct to the pure in heart”. And there is the presence of Christ, “that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith” (Ephesians 3: 17). And there is the presence of Christ in the Eucharist, where he is present as opposed to past, not simply present as opposed to absent, and what happened in Christ reaches us and happens to us.

This lecture series is intended to focus on the central doctrine of Catholic life: the Eucharistic body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. By engaging in Christ-centered themes – Christ as teacher, leader, and exemplar – this Eucharistic lecture series will nurture faith formation and spiritual growth, and it will provide students and alumni with opportunities for intellectual renewal as well, even as it deepens their communion with the University and with God.
