While Rudy (1993) is a paean to the spirit of Notre Dame and is widely regarded as one of the greatest sports films and feel-good movies of all time, it was by no means the first of its kind. This talk, which is an abridged version of Professor Crafton’s Hesburgh Lecture Series’ offering, “Notre Dame in the Movies,” presents highlights from Hollywood’s grand and notorious representations of the life and lore of the University. The talk is illustrated with numerous film clips from pre-Rudy features.
