Reunion Weekend Seminar: Before Rudy: A Brief Look at Notre Dame in the Movies

-

Location: DeBartolo Hall, Room 129

Hosted by: Donald Crafton, M.A., Ph.D., department chair, Professor, Film Television and Theatre; Notre Dame professor of film and culture (Endowed Chair); fellow of Nanovic Institute for European Studies

While Rudy (1993) is a paean to the spirit of Notre Dame and is widely regarded as one of the greatest sports films and feel-good movies of all time, it was by no means the first of its kind. This talk, which is an abridged version of Professor Crafton’s Hesburgh Lecture Series’ offering, “Notre Dame in the Movies,” presents highlights from Hollywood’s grand and notorious representations of the life and lore of the University. The talk is illustrated with numerous film clips from pre-Rudy features.
