University of Maryland

Reception 119 O’Shaughnessy.

Heidi Scott studies Ecocriticism of the British Romantic era. Her research investigates how poems and novels understood the changing environment during industrialism, particularly ways in which the 19th century literary visions were forerunners of scientific ecology. Her manuscript, “Chaos and the Microcosm,” refigures the poetry of major Romantic writers through an interdisciplinary frame that places literature at the origins of a scientific conception of ecosystem dynamics. She holds a PhD and MA in Literature from the University of Maryland and a BS in Biology and English from the University of North Carolina.
