LCTLS (Bengali, Swahili, Turkish, and Vietnamese)

After completing Intermediate II, students are expected to demonstrate sustained control over the linguistic functions of the Intermediate level with some evidence of emerging proficiency at the Advanced level as described in the ACTFL proficiency guidelines.

SPEAKING

Students can successfully communicate in conversations about personal information and general interests. They are able to ask a variety of questions and sustain conversation in strings of sentences. They can combine previously practiced elements to create language with sufficient accuracy (i.e. sentence structure, verbal forms, pronunciation) to be understood by interlocutors accustomed to speaking with learners of the language.

WRITING

Students can write short communications related to personal experiences and familiar topics with sufficient accuracy (i.e. sentence structure, verbal forms, agreement) to be understood by readers accustomed to speaking with learners of the language.

LISTENING

Students are able to understand speech of sentence length in a variety of topics related to familiar and personal contexts. They can understand the main idea and extract some details from a variety of sources such as conversations and journalism sources.

READING

Students are able to read and understand short texts about topics of personal interest and everyday life. They can understand the main idea and extract some details from a variety of sources such as short readings on general topics or journalism sources.

CULTURE

Students are able to communicate and interact in real-world situations using appropriate cultural behavior and language as they learned through authentic readings about the target language’s culture relating to history, geography, art, music, literature, and popular culture.
