Kate Garry joined the Office of Communications in 2010 as senior writer/editor and she was appointed as director of communications and marketing in 2014. She has two decades of experience in journalism, media relations, and strategic communications in the higher education, government, and nonprofit sectors. Kate received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Richmond and her master’s degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois. 

Responsibilities

The communications director is responsible for developing and executing the College’s strategic communications plan. She oversees all Arts and Letters communications and marketing projects, including news, print, and electronic publications and promotions, social media, video, special events, and more than 100 websites. Garry serves as a member of the executive committee, advising the dean and providing consulting, editorial, and creative services to faculty leaders across the College. She also represents Arts and Letters across campus, coordinating on strategies and messaging that serve wider University goals and communications initiatives.
