Undergraduate Profiles

Dana Lee [photo]Seizing Research Opportunities

The summer before my junior year, I was in the McNair Scholar Program here at Notre Dame conducting research. I worked on a paper comparing classical and postmodern ideas on language. My research won the Academic Excellence award at the end of the summer, and I had the opportunity to present it at the McNair National Conference in Wisconsin.

I also presented a short paper at the Midwest American Academy of Religion conference in Chicago, arguing that an effective civic engagement (and justice) is most possible through God/love-rooted actions in the world.

I was lucky enough to earn an internship though Notre Dame with the Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights’ Refugee and Immigrant Program in downtown Minneapolis. Every day I interviewed refugees seeking asylum in the U.S., verified the accuracy of their cases, conducted human rights research, and presented cases for deliberation with the legal staff.
