Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts:
UROP Fellowships and Grants
Facilitated by the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts, the Undergraduate Research and Teaching Opportunity Program (UROP) is an exciting initiative designed to expose undergraduate students to the rigors and rewards of scholarship.
Students work with faculty advisors to design a research project that may range from independent research to creative projects to the presentation of research at conferences. Awards include summer fellowship grants up to $4500 and research and materials grants of $1750.
Projects receiving grants in 2008 include:
- Inspiration, Love, and Rivalry of Homeland: The Loire Valley of Muse
- Cultural Fluidity in Europe: The People and Identity of South Tirol
- An Analysis of Risk and Resilience in Older Adults
Intellectual Community
- Undergraduate Research at Notre Dame (UR@ND) is a compilation of experiential learning opportunities for undergrads.
- Departmental Research and Internship Opportunities give Notre Dame students firsthand knowledge of an academic topic or professional field.
- The Journal for Undergraduate Reseach is an annual, student edited publication highlighting Arts and Letters undergraduate research.
- Residing in a World of Ideas (RWI) brings students and faculty together in the residence halls to discuss matters of pressing or enduring importance.
- Learning Beyond the Classroom Grants With Learning Beyond the Classroom Grants, we hope to give students occasions to attend conferences (as opposed to presenting their own research), conduct classroom research (i.e., unrelated to a thesis), attend cultural events, conduct research at relevant archives, museums, and exhibits, and under certain circumstances, plan service projects in the U.S. or abroad. Students are eligible for grants of up to $1500.
International Opportunities - The Office for International Studies offers opportunities and resources for students who want to "internationalize" their life, including co-sponsoring a competition for Summer Language Grants.
- The Kellogg Institute for International Studies provides grants to juniors whose interests include a clear international dimension related to the Kellogg Institute's themes.
- The Nanovic Institute for European Studies offers research and travel grants to University of Notre Dame undergraduate students. The grants support students who wish to conduct interviews and carry out research in the libraries and archives of Europe.
Arts and Letters Centers
- The Center for Creative Computing (CCC) provides leadership and resources to support digital technologies in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Students may apply for grants as part of faculty-student teams.
- The Center for the Study of Languages and Culture (CSLC) is an innovative and technical resource community developed to support language learning at Notre Dame .
