Research

While a graduate student, Lauren worked with Mark Cummings, Notre Dame Professor of Psychology to study marital conflict and how it affects parents and children. She defended her dissertation, entitled, “Dimensions of marital conflict in the home, parental psychological symptoms, and child adjustment: A family-wide investigation,” in May, 2005. Lauren received her Ph.D. in August.

Grants and Fellowships

In 2004, Lauren received an Outstanding Graduate Student Award from the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs and a University of Notre Dame Alumni Association Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Research. Prior to that, she received the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Mental Health, which provided Lauren with funding to complete her dissertation.

Reasons for Choosing Psychology at Notre Dame

Lauren performed research on martial conflict as an undergraduate student and wanted to continue her study in graduate school. She was drawn to Notre Dame by Professor Cummings’ expertise in the field.

“The professors are amazing because they are well-known but accessible and interested in student learning… [The Department of Psychology] facilitates interactions between faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students and that creates good, meaningful experiences.”
