- Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts (ISLA)
Arts and Letters faculty are eligible to compete for a variety of course-development grants awarded each year by the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts. ISLA also funds the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), which requires students to work with the guidance of a faculty advisor.

- Table Talk Subsidy
The purpose of the subsidy for “table talk” is to encourage interaction between undergraduate students and faculty in a relaxed social setting. The fund is designed to assist faculty with the costs of entertaining students in their homes or other appropriate venues where there will not be interruptions from other students or groups.Sharing a meal has the potential of building meaningful relationships in class and well beyond the time when students complete a given class.
- Community of Learning Initiative
Launched during the 2004-2005 academic year, the Community of Learning initiative enhances undergraduate intellectual life by creating small departmental reading and discussion groups.
- Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC)
Learning Beyond the Classroom Grants provide funding to faculty in support of cultural excursions and academic experiences aimed at enhancing teaching and student learning beyond the classroom. There are two types of grants: Interim LBC grants and Annual LBC grants. Faculty are eligible for Annual LBC grants (above $5,000) or Interim grants (up to $5,000). Applications are available here and in the Office of Undergraduate Studies. Annual LBC grant proposals for the fall 2008 semester are due in the Office of Undergraduate Studies by July 15 and September 15 for the spring 2009 semester. Interim LBC grants will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

- Residing in a World of Ideas (RWI)
Residing in a World of Ideas facilitates the integration of intellectual and residential life by bringing students and faculty together in the residence halls to discuss matters of pressing or enduring importance.

- Now in its 6th year, Teachers as Scholars presents an exciting opportunity for Arts and Letters faculty to share their expertise with other educators. Throughout each semester, faculty from the humanities and social sciences conduct two-day, topic-based seminars for local elementary and high school teachers.
